Did you know that weighted or in other words anti-stress blankets are a growing hit and sales of weighted blankets have soared in recent years?
The gentle pressure created by the weighted blanket is called "Deep Pressure Touch Stimulation" (DPTS), that means sensory stimulation of touch. Studies show that touch simulation leads to increased release of sedative hormones. Due to the increased weight and pressure, it offers a feeling of "hug", which will make you feel less stressed and more relaxed. Using a blanket also releases melatonin and reduces cortisol secretion, which means you will fall asleep easier and also sleep longer.
Dr. Raj Dasgupta, an assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Southern California, compares sleep to a puzzle, with factors like light, temperature, sound, and physical comfort as the pieces. It’s with that last puzzle piece that weighted blankets make a difference. “People want that snuggly effect,” he says. Dasgupta explains that self-reported questionnaires support claims that weighted blankets may prolong sleep times and relieve anxiety. Ideally, a weighted blanket should weigh in at around 8 to 12 percent of the user’s body weight in order to provide enough heft without being uncomfortable.
Other studies on these blankets also say that a heavier blanket or its pressure on the body calms us down or has a therapeutic effect on the nervous system. This makes it easier for people to relax and fall asleep faster - so the heavy blanket in question helps them sleep better, even for people who suffer from insomnia. They are also very helpful in conditions such as anxiety and attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
There has been quite a bit of research done on this topic in the last year. At SleepFoundation.org, a team of sleep experts tested and selected the weighted blankets that convinced them the most. Some of the criteria considered in the process were: softness, breathability and longevity. Hand-knitted organic cotton blankets were chosen as one of the best weighted blankets on the market. The main advantage of this material is that it is very airy due to the intermediate holes and is suitable for use in all seasons. It is also ideal for those who feel hot during sleep. The material is made of 100% organic cotton, which is known for its durability, breathability and softness.

With a weighted blanket, you can sleep through the night from the time of purchase. At first, the weighted quilt may seem a bit unusual, so we recommend that you test it for at least a month. First, start using it for a short time, gradually increasing it.
